James Brent Ward
James Brent Ward first
encountered titanium as an undergraduate at Central in
the early 1970s where he later worked as a technician before
studying for his MA at the RCA, (1974-7).
His research on the use of the refractory metals, sponsored
by the Goldsmiths’ Company, formed the basis for, The
Colouring and Working of Refractory Metals, published
by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths’ as Project
Report No. 34/1, in 1978.
He participated in the first exhibition devoted entirely
to titanium jewellery with two fellow students from the
RCA, Edward de Large and Kevin Coates, at the Electrum
gallery in 1976.
